    What This Library Is

Ayahuasca is one of the most researched and least understood medicines in the modern therapeutic landscape. It is not a party drug, not a wellness trend, and not something to be taken casually in a jungle hut with a stranger. It is a powerful entheogenic brew — a combination of the Banisteriopsis caapi vine and a DMT-containing companion plant — that has been used ceremonially for centuries in the Amazon and, in the last two decades, has become the subject of serious clinical research for depression, PTSD, addiction, and trauma. Used inside the right container, it is one of the most transformative therapeutic tools available. Used outside it, it can be genuinely dangerous.

This library exists because ayahuasca information online is a mess. Half of it is uncritical evangelism from retreat marketers; the other half is scare-copy from mainstream outlets that don't understand the pharmacology. Neither serves someone actually considering this work. What we have built here is a curated editorial index — every ayahuasca-related article, safety resource, and location guide on Sanctuary Tulum, organized by intent so you can find what you actually came looking for.

    How to Use This Library

If ayahuasca is new to you, start with the two guides — Ayahuasca Retreat and Ayahuasca Ceremony — then read What Is Ayahuasca and the ceremony guide. If you are researching safety before committing, read the Safety & Screening section carefully; the article on deaths and shady retreats is required reading before choosing any provider anywhere. If you are comparing ayahuasca to psilocybin, MDMA, or 5-MeO-DMT, the Comparisons section is honest — each medicine has a distinct clinical profile and none is universally better. If you are researching a specific location or region, the Locations & Logistics section covers the U.S. landscape, Costa Rica, Mexico, and cost.

    Who This Library Is For

This library is written for adults evaluating ayahuasca as part of a serious healing decision — usually because conventional treatment has failed to resolve depression, trauma, or dependency. Many readers arrive here after years of medication trials, which is why the depression material sits alongside the ceremony material rather than in a separate silo, and why the ceremonies we run are held inside a licensed luxury depression treatment center instead of a standalone retreat. It is not written for casual seekers, and it is not written to sell you anything. Every article on this site is medically reviewed by Dr. Jose A. Jimenez, MD, and every location-specific piece is honest about legal status. If a jurisdiction does not permit medically supervised ayahuasca, we say so. If a retreat model has a documented safety record, we describe it. If it doesn't, we describe that too.

Sanctuary Tulum is a licensed medical facility in Mexico. Ayahuasca ceremonies at Sanctuary Tulum are conducted under continuous physician supervision within a licensed medical program — not standalone tourism events.

How to Choose the Right Resource

Five steps for navigating this library as a decision framework, not a reading list. Follow the sequence in order — most of the failure modes we see with ayahuasca-curious clients trace back to skipping one of these steps.

    1. Step 01

Clarify your intent before you research providers

Are you exploring ayahuasca for treatment-resistant depression, unresolved trauma, addiction, or spiritual inquiry? Each intent points to different reading. Start with the Ayahuasca Retreat page and What Is Ayahuasca before comparing providers — a clear intent is the single best filter against marketing.

    2. Step 02

Read the safety material before anything else

Skip the Locations section until you have read Ayahuasca Deaths, Side Effects & Shady Retreats and the Safest Psychedelic Facility credentials page. If a provider cannot answer the questions those two articles raise, they are not a serious option regardless of price, aesthetics, or Instagram footprint.

    3. Step 03

Use the Comparisons section if you are undecided between medicines

Ayahuasca is not universally the right tool. If PTSD is your primary indication, read Ayahuasca vs MDMA for PTSD. If you want a shorter arc, read 5-MeO-DMT vs Ayahuasca. If you want research depth, read Ayahuasca vs Psilocybin. Choose the medicine, then the provider — not the other way around.

    4. Step 04

Read the Locations & Logistics section for your home market

Legal status, travel logistics, and provider quality vary sharply by region. New York, Florida, USA, Costa Rica, and Mexico each have dedicated pieces. If your market is not covered, read Best Ayahuasca Retreat and Ayahuasca Retreat Cost — they generalize.

    5. Step 05

Confirm the container before you commit

Medical screening, on-site physician, licensed facility, and a real integration plan are non-negotiable. The Culture, Stories & Long-Form section is optional context; the Guides and safety section are the decision.
