What Is the Pouyan Method™?
The Pouyan Method™ is a trademarked, all-natural healing system developed by Johnny Tabaie, founder of Sanctuary Tulum. Born from his own journey of healing from addiction and near death, this revolutionary protocol has been refined over 13+ years and has successfully treated thousands of clients from around the world.
Unlike conventional medicine that masks symptoms with medications, or traditional rehab that relies on outdated group therapy and 12-step models, the Pouyan Method addresses the root cause of addiction, mental illness, and chronic disease — at the cellular, neurochemical, and spiritual level.
The Core Components
1. Cellular Detoxification
The body is cleansed at the cellular level through NAD+ IV therapy, glutathione infusions, chelation heavy metal detox, and high-dose vitamin C — 3+ hours of potent IV drip therapy daily. This removes toxins, repairs mitochondria, and restores the body's foundational chemistry.
2. Neurochemical Restoration
The brain's neurotransmitter systems — serotonin, dopamine, GABA, and glutamate — are repaired through targeted amino acid IV therapy, NAD+ infusions, and stem cell therapy. This eliminates cravings, resolves depression and anxiety, and restores natural emotional balance.
3. Sacred Plant Medicine
Medically supervised ceremonies with ibogaine, ayahuasca, psilocybin, and 5-MeO-DMT access the subconscious mind to process unresolved trauma, reprogram limiting beliefs, and catalyze profound spiritual transformation.
4. Regenerative Medicine
Advanced therapies including stem cell treatment, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, DNA/RNA repair, and telomere restoration accelerate healing, reverse biological aging, and repair organ damage from years of substance abuse or chronic illness.
5. Mind-Body Integration
Daily yoga, breathwork, meditation, therapeutic massage, and organic superfood nutrition support the nervous system, reduce cortisol, and build lasting habits for a healthy, vibrant life beyond treatment.
35+ Hours of One-on-One Care Per Week
Few facilities offer this level of personalized attention. Each guest receives a nine-hour daily healing regimen — customized to their unique condition — with dedicated one-on-one practitioners. There is no group therapy. There are no shared sessions. Every moment of your healing journey is focused entirely on you.
The Evidence Behind Each Modality
The Pouyan Method™ is built from modalities that each carry an independent, growing body of peer-reviewed research, even though the combined protocol itself is proprietary to Sanctuary Tulum. NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) has been studied as a coenzyme involved in cellular energy metabolism, with researchers exploring its role in withdrawal support and neuronal repair in substance-use populations. NAD+ IV therapy at Sanctuary Tulum is offered as a supportive component of detoxification, not a standalone cure.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has been studied in randomized, sham-controlled trials for mild traumatic brain injury and post-concussion syndrome, with several trials reporting improvement in post-concussive symptoms and cognitive measures. Mesenchymal stem cell approaches have likewise been reviewed in the neurodegenerative disease literature for their modulatory and reparative properties in the central nervous system, an active area of ongoing clinical research rather than a settled, universally applied treatment. Sanctuary Tulum offers these therapies as part of a comprehensive, physician-supervised protocol, and outcomes vary by individual case.
On the plant-medicine side, ayahuasca has been studied in randomized, placebo-controlled trials for treatment-resistant depression, with researchers reporting rapid, short-term reductions in depressive symptoms in some participants. MDMA-assisted therapy has been evaluated in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 3 trials for severe PTSD, with published results showing meaningful symptom improvement for many participants. These are promising but still-developing research areas — not FDA-approved treatments for these conditions in the United States — which is why our clinical team discusses the current evidence and its limitations with every guest during intake rather than presenting these therapies as guaranteed outcomes.
Who the Pouyan Method™ Is Designed For
This protocol is designed for adults seeking an alternative to conventional, medication-based treatment for addiction, treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD, or benzodiazepine and SSRI dependency, who are medically stable enough to undergo the screening our physicians require before any plant-medicine or IV-based therapy. It is not designed for guests in active psychosis, acute suicidal crisis, or with certain unstabilized cardiac conditions — our medical team screens for these during intake, and redirecting a guest to a higher level of acute care when appropriate is part of practicing this method responsibly.
Guests currently taking psychiatric medication are never instructed to stop on their own. Where clinically appropriate, our physicians plan a gradual, medically supervised taper as part of the broader protocol, coordinating with each guest's existing prescriber whenever that relationship is ongoing.
